For a lovely meal, serve with a simple green salad with Classic Vinaigrette on the side and do as a the French do.  Enjoy with a lovely bottle of wine.

Ingredients
  • 2 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • ¼ cup white onions, diced
  • 4 leaves kale, de-stemmed, torn by hand into ½ inch squares, stems chopped
  • ¼ cup carrots, diced
  • ¾ pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons red or white wine
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme,  leaves picked,
  • 1 bay leaf, dried
  • ¼ cup peas, frozen, thawed
  • Kosher Salt and Black Pepper
  • 2 cups yuca puree or mashed potatoes or any leftover root vegetable mash
Directions

Preheat your oven to broil.

  1. Place olive oil, garlic, onions, kale stems, herbs and carrots and ground beef in to your large smartbowl™ . Place the lid on the smartbowl, seal it and press the valve to release air. Microwave for about 2 minutes. Remove your bowl from the microwave, separate meat with a fork, until loose and crumbly.
  2. Pour in the wine, then add peas and kale. Place the lid on the smartbowl, seal and press the valve to release air. Microwave for 4 minutes, or until meat is fully cooked.
  3. Remove the lid from your bowl, then make the surface even with a fork. Spoon the puree or  mash over the beef and vegetable mixture.Place the lid on the smartbowl, seal it and press the valve to release air. Microwave for 2 minutes.
  4. Uncover your smartbowl and place it on a baking sheet. Take the sheet to your oven in the medium rack. Broil until the top becomes golden and the sides begin to brown. This happens quickly, so pay attention!
  5. Remove the baking sheet from the oven using oven mitts or a kitchen towel. Let stand for 3-5 minutes before serving. Be careful- your bowl will be hot and so will the pie! Enjoy!
